Chiropractic can’t stop you getting old … but it might stop you feeling it!
Many people will experience some wear and tear or osteoarthritis as they get older. Unfortunately, many patients who visit the Spine & Joint Centre have been told that they have pain due to ‘arthritis’ and they will just have to ‘put up with it’ or ‘live with it’.
However, do they need to just put up with the pain?
Damage to the cartilage and bone is usually the cause of degenerative arthritis also know as osteoarthritis. Often little os even no pain is felt as the body generally compensates for this. This can even be the case when the wear and tear is quite advanced. Some stiffness may be noticed in the affected. This may especially be in the morning or after being inactivity for a period or evenwhen the weather changes.
From time to time patients visitng the Spine & Joint Centre have been previously dignosed incorrectly with ‘arthritis’. Their pain is not due to wear and tear it is caused by a simple joint dysfunction.
Putting a stop to it
Degeneration of joints cannot be reversed. However your Chiropractor at the Spine & Joint Centre can help to improve joint and muscle function. This can make a significant difference to pain and stiffness.
When you visit the Spine & Joint Centre your Chiropractor will ask you questions about your pain, medical history, posture and lifestyle. Your chiropractor will then carry out a fully and thorough examination to discover the cause of your pain. Once they have done this the chiropractor will be in a position to offer a diagnosis of your complaint.
If treatment is indicated, your chiropractor will begin your treatment often with gentle, specific adjustments (the chiropractic word for manipulation). These manual adjustments are done to free stiff joints and myofascial release techniques to help the function of the muscles.
Following your treatment your Chiropractor will advise you of specific exercises to strengthen weak muscles and stretch tight muscles to improve flexibility.
