By now your New Year’s resolutions are probably etched deep in that motivated part of your brain that’s screaming “victory!” But apart from the goals you’ve already set for yourself, there are some surprising health facts that our Ealing chiropractor thinks you should know. If you’re anything like us, just being aware of these remarkable facts can make you think differently about what you do on a daily basis.
So let’s take a look at a few unexpected truths…
1: Less than 1 % of bacteria cause disease!
These days, you can’t walk into a cafe without some sort of bacteria-phobe smearing gallons of “anti-bac” across every table, chair and door handle they come into contact with. But most bacteria are not harmful, with less than 1% causing disease! In fact, many forms of bacteria are actually good for you, including many of those that live in your gut and on your skin.
2: Sugar is as bad for you as cigarettes
Ok so the sweet stuff doesn’t exactly carry around the same toxic stigma as smoking, but the truth is that too much sugar could be as bad for you lighting up a cigarette!
3: Being optimistic can help you live longer
If you’re the type of person who looks at the glass as being half empty then you could be in for shorter stay here on Planet Earth. Research published in the European Heart Journal has suggested that optimistic people are less likely to suffer from heart disease, while researchers at Duke University Medical Centre found that heart patients who were more optimistic about their treatment lived longer than those who were not. Better get looking on the bright side, we say!
4: Cash machines are as dirty as public toilets
Perhaps it’s time that wash basins were installed next to those “holes in the walls”, as cash machines can be just as dirty as public toilets. Apparently, key pads on cash machines have been found to contain the same sickness-causing bacteria found in public loos. Now here is in instance where the “anti-bac” would come in handy!
Knowledge is power, as they say!
